AWO revealed as first law firm to achieve Fair Tax Mark
International agency AWO are the first law firm to have been awarded the Fair Tax Mark – the gold standard accreditation for responsible corporate tax.
AWO – which operate in the UK, Belgium, Australia and have a representative office in Italy – were set up by a group of experts six years ago. These were lawyers involved in groundbreaking and precedent-setting legal action, public policy experts who were shaping digital policy in the EU and the UK, and AI and data protection compliance practitioners who were helping international organisations and companies meet complex challenges.
The firm’s work continues to break new ground. AWO recently filed the UK’s first legal claim over nonconsensual AI-generated deepfakes, acting on behalf of an MP targeted by content created by the AI assistant Grok.
AWO, which are also a B Corp and participate in the World Land Trust’s Carbon Balanced programme, have demonstrated they pay the right amount of tax, in the right place, at the right time.
AWO said:
“Paying tax is something to be proud of. It is a contribution to the public services and infrastructure that communities depend on. Since AWO’s founding in 2020, we have sought to build a business that takes its obligations seriously – to clients, to staff, to society, and to the law itself.”
Some 275 businesses around the world are now certified with the Fair Tax Mark.
AWO added:
“We are proud to join the growing number of businesses around the world demonstrating that responsible tax practice is both possible and good for business.”
The firm have been assessed against the Fair Tax Foundation’s global multinational business standard, which looks at key criteria in five areas: transparency, tax policy, country-by-country reporting, tax notes disclosure and tax rate.
AWO’s simple organisational structure, payment of fair taxes in each country of operation, and responsible tax governance, are areas in which the business excels when it comes to fair tax practices.
Jaime Boswell, Head of Accreditation at the Fair Tax Foundation, said:
“Paying fair tax aligns with many companies’ values. The Fair Tax Mark is clearly a perfect fit for AWO, which work tirelessly to provide ethical legal services with integrity. Congratulations to the team for being awarded this gold standard certification.”
