Cavetta Consulting stand out from the crowd with first Fair Tax Mark

Cavetta Consulting have become the first Scottish-based capital allowances firm to secure the Fair Tax Mark, leading by example in a sector often seen to unfairly maximise tax planning.

As specialist tax advisers, Cavetta Consulting primarily provide consultancy services in relation to capital allowances, helping clients identify and claim tax relief on qualifying property expenditure as well as land remediation relief. The company is owned and controlled by its two directors, Alan Cadden and Lois Stirling.

The Fair Tax Mark is the world’s first accreditation for responsible tax conduct. It certifies that a business: seeks to follow the spirit, as well as the letter of the law; shuns corporate tax avoidance such as the artificial use of tax havens; and is transparent about profits made and taxes paid.

By publishing a statement committing to use tax reliefs and allowances only in line with the spirit of the law, Cavetta Consulting have qualified for the gold standard of corporate tax conduct.

They have also pledged not to enter into transactions whose main purpose is to gain tax advantages that would not otherwise be available. Their tax policy also extends to the advice and services they provide for their clients.

Jaime Boswell, Head of Accreditation at the Fair Tax Foundation, said:

“Effective tax reliefs are part of a well-functioning economic system. But they are often taken advantage of. By recommending reliefs to their clients within the spirit of the law, Cavetta Consulting is ensuring the system works as intended and playing their part in creating a fair and competitive environment.”

Alan Cadden, Director at Cavetta Consulting, said:

“Securing the Fair Tax Mark is something we’re genuinely proud of, because it reflects how we have always tried to operate – doing the right thing. We see it as a responsibility as much as a recognition.

“Capital allowances and land remediation relief exist for a reason, and our role is to help clients claim what they’re entitled to in a way that’s transparent, evidence-led, and aligned with the spirit of the legislation.

“We’re a small, director-led firm, so our name is on every piece of work – and we like to be known not only for doing things properly, but for raising and continually improving the standard of capital allowances valuations that clients receive. In an area that can sometimes be misunderstood, we believe trust is everything, and this accreditation is an important way of showing how seriously we take that.”

“Having achieved ISO:9001 accreditation a couple of years ago and now the Fair Tax Mark we will continue on our journey to make our customer journey, product and business the best they can be.  Achieving the Fair Tax Mark feels like an encouraging confirmation we’re on the right track.”
