Delight as East of England Co-op gains the Fair Tax Mark

East of England has become the latest Co-op to be awarded a Fair Tax Mark. Founded over 140 years ago, East of England has grown to become one of the largest, totally independent businesses in the region, with over 200 stores, 5,000 employees and a turnover of £350m a year.

Doug Field, Executive Officer, Finance and Technology at East of England Co-op, said: “As a co-operative, we’re different to other businesses. We are a business for people and communities, not just for profit.

“Earlier this year we published our Tax Policy, which sets out our commitment to paying all the taxes that we owe. We believe that paying our taxes is the clearest indication we can give of being responsible participants in society. We also believe that every business should pay its fair share of tax, it shouldn’t be the exception.

“We’re delighted to have been awarded the Fair Tax Mark. It is a fantastic way to show our customers and members that we are a responsible business that contributes its fair share to society.”

To gain a the Fair Tax Mark, East of England have worked hard to ensure that their public statements on corporate taxation are clear and transparent – this can be seen in their annual report available here.
