Mercat Tours International lead the way with Fair Tax Mark accreditation

Scotland-based Mercat Tours International have been awarded the Fair Tax Mark, joining progressive businesses across the UK and Europe accredited to the gold standard of responsible tax conduct.

For more than two decades, Mercat Tours International have offered tour packages to some of the key sites of 20th century European history. Through World War I and World War II tours in France and Belgium, the company provide tailored experiences to both schools and individuals.

Students and customers are immersed in the past through tours like The WWI Battlefield Experience and The WWII D-Day Landings Experience, featuring documents, music, drama, and archive film to transport them “back in time”.

The Fair Tax Mark accreditation scheme is the gold standard of responsible tax conduct. It seeks to encourage and recognise organisations that pay the right amount of corporation tax at the right time and in the right place. Businesses carrying the Fair Tax Mark in the UK include national brands such as Timpson, Lush, and Richer Sounds, listed companies including SSE and Marshalls Plc., as well as co-operatives, family businesses and social enterprises. Businesses in Denmark, Finland, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Sweden also carry certification.

Demonstrating their commitment to responsible tax conduct, Mercat Tours International have published a statement that details their tax policy, as well as a commitment to follow the spirit of the law and shun tax avoidance and aggressive tax planning.

Natasha Turner, Acting Head of Communications, Fair Tax Foundation, said: “Mercat Tours International place a real importance on educating their customers about historical events that still shape the world we live in. It’s great to see them apply that same dedication to achieving their first Fair Tax Mark, and those embarking on their tours in Europe can feel confident they’re booking with a business that gives back to society through their responsible tax conduct.”
