Why did you apply for the Fair Tax Mark?

The Co-operative Group applied for the Fair Tax Mark as it felt like a natural fit for how the Group approaches its tax affairs. The Group is proud to have achieved the high standards set by the Fair Tax Mark. The Mark provides the Group and the stakeholders of the Group with a robust and independent verification of how well we explain our approach to tax and our tax numbers.

What are the benefits of it to the group?

The purpose of the Co-operative Group is to champion a better way of doing business for you and your communities. The Fair Tax Mark is a key demonstration of how the Group puts this purpose into action.

The Fair Tax Mark will be a demonstration to our members and customers that we are committed to being open and transparent in respect of our Tax Policy and numbers.

How did you find the process?

The process was a collaborative process that has served to enhance the level of transparency the Group now provides to the public.

Ian Ellis, Chief Financial Officer, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded the Fair Tax Mark. It shows that we ‘do the right thing’ in respect of tax, which our members, customers and our communities consider an important issue to them. Being awarded the Fair Tax Mark is a clear demonstration of how we seek to put our purpose of championing a better way of doing business for you and your communities into practice.”
