Ørsted take top spot in Danish tax governance rankings for third year running
Fair Tax Mark business Ørsted have once again triumphed in Danish publication Økonomisk Ugebrev’s annual Tax Governance Rating.
Securing 10 points out of a possible 12, Ørsted took first place in the large-caps category for the third year running, along with fellow renewables provider Vestas.
Over the past seven years, Ørsted have achieved five first places and two second places.
Each year, Økonomisk Ugebrev analyse around 120 large and medium-sized Danish companies around seven key metrics. These include looking at companies’ tax policies, total tax contribution, use of tax havens and public Country-by-Country Reporting (pCbCR).
In 2023 the publication enhanced their metrics. In their tax policy metric, they said extra points available for stating who on the board of directors is responsible for the preparation and compliance with the company’s tax policy had been inspired by the guidance from the Fair Tax Foundation.
Ørsted excel in reporting profits broken down by country
For Ørsted’s win this year, Økonomisk Ugebrev highlighted several areas in which the energy company excel.
“Ørsted’s website has a complete country-by-country overview that includes tax payments and the number of employees for all the countries in which Ørsted operate. At the same time, the overview contains information about which tax incentives Ørsted have used in each country,” the publication said.
The Fair Tax Foundation also highlight Ørsted as an exemplar of pCbCR in our information hub on the topic. This hub tracks the first wave of tax transparency reports to emerge because of the EU pCbCR Directive. As at end April 2026, we have tracked, analysed and rated 343 pCbCR reports from 270 MNEs.
Greg Yates, Senior Ratings Manager at the Fair Tax Foundation, said:
“Ørsted continue to set a strong example in terms of responsible tax conduct. Their willingness to engage in leading-edge transparency, including detailed public Country-by-Country Reporting, shows a serious commitment to openness and accountability. As a Fair Tax Mark certified business consistently placing well in Økonomisk Ugebrev’s ranking, they are helping to demonstrate what good tax governance looks like in practice.”
