We are delighted to announce the appointment of three new non-executive directors to our board: Rebecca Hurford, Head of Tax at Watches of Switzerland; Penny Hogan, Chief Financial Officer at Unity Trust Bank plc; and Hannah Wickes, marketing advisor and former Chief Marketing Officer at Ecosia. These additions come at a pivotal moment, as we accelerate our international growth strategy following a successful investment raise last year.

The addition of Rebecca, Penny and Hannah marks a deliberate move to broaden the skills and international expertise of our governance. Their appointments are closely aligned with our mission to make the Fair Tax Mark a globally recognised standard for responsible tax conduct.

Rob Harrison, Chair of the Fair Tax Foundation, commented, “Our new directors bring a wealth of experience from the worlds of finance, tax, and ethical business. Their combined expertise will be invaluable as we scale our operations and drive our vision of a fairer, more transparent tax system for businesses worldwide.”

Meet the new directors

Penny Hogan

Penny Hogan is the Chief Financial Officer at Unity Trust Bank plc, a UK-based bank known for its commitment to ethical banking and social impact, and one of the longest-standing Fair Tax Mark certified organisations. Penny’s track record in financial stewardship and governance, combined with her leadership in the banking sector, will help the Foundation strengthen its financial oversight and strategic planning as it manages increasing demand for the Fair Tax Mark.

Hannah Wickes

Hannah Wickes is a marketing advisor and former Chief Marketing Officer at Ecosia, the search engine that uses its profits to plant trees worldwide. Wickes brings a strong background in purpose-driven marketing and brand development, having helped Ecosia become a household name in ethical tech. Her expertise will be critical in raising the profile of the Fair Tax Foundation and engaging new audiences across multiple markets.

These appointments are part of a broader strategy to capitalise on the momentum generated by our recent investment raise. This has provided the resources needed to expand the reach of the Fair Tax Mark, which currently certifies 270 businesses across Europe. Collectively these business employ more than 400,000 people and contribute over £5.3bn / €6.1bn annually in corporate tax worldwide.

The expansion of the Board comes as we prepare for Fair Tax Week 2025, which will take place from 8–15 June, further raising awareness of the growing movement for tax justice and responsible business conduct. With our strengthened leadership team and renewed investment, the Fair Tax Foundation is well positioned to advance our mission and make responsible tax the norm for businesses worldwide.

About the Fair Tax Foundation

The Fair Tax Foundation launched in 2014 and operate as a not-for-profit social enterprise. We believe companies demonstrating responsible tax practices should be recognised and celebrated, and any global race to the bottom on corporate income tax resisted. Tax avoidance doesn’t just rob public services of vital revenue, it also undermines the ability of business to compete fairly, reduces national productivity and exacerbates inequality.

We have developed the Fair Tax Mark, the world’s first certification for responsible tax conduct, which is now widely regarded as being the gold standard for business worldwide. Certification has been secured by 270 businesses, which together employ more than 400,000 people and contribute €6.1bn / £5.3bn annually in corporate income tax worldwide. Our progressive community has grown to embrace businesses headquartered in the UK, Denmark, Germany, Finland, Italy, Spain, Sweden and the Netherlands.

Other initiatives include the Tax Responsibility and Transparency Index, Fair Tax Week and the Councils for Fair Tax Declaration.
